Antigua and Barbuda are on Eastern Standard Time which equates to GMT -4.00hours. This would mean at 10am in London it would be 06.00am in St John's, Antigua.
The local currency is the Eastern Caribbean Dollar (EC$) however almost everywhere also accept the US Dollar (US$). There are many cash machines located around the towns and most major credit cards are also accepted. There are many airlines that fly to Antigua. The main carriers that fly non-stop from the UK are British Airways and Virgin Atlantic and it takes approximately 8hours from London. There are also plenty of carriers from North America and the main airlines carrying non-stop to Antigua are American Airlines and Delta. It takes approximately 4 hours from New York.
Cruise ships generally dock at Heritage Quay in St John's Harbour where there is a large duty free shopping centre and is also within easy walking distance of the main St John's sights. Alternatively, yachts can moor in Falmouth Harbour and taxi their passengers into the town for the day. Any private charter yachts requesting to moor in Antigua must follow the strict immigration procedures.
Renting a car in Antigua is a great way to see the island at your own pace. There are many providers of rental cars with a number with convenient offices at the VC Bird International airport. Most drivers operate on a fixed fee system so agree your fare before you leave. The majority of taxi drivers are also trained tour guides and can give you lots of interesting facts about the island and sights you may be passing. Don't forget to ask questions!
